I recently got both of the headphones that are currently available from claw machines in various arcades. I have little patience to play those games, so I cheated and got these off of Yahoo auctions. I’m lazy that way. orz
So, anyway, here’s a quick look!!
The Emil headphones have angelic script on the headband. Notice that they’re using some non-angelic text as well (there is no corresponding angelic symbol for every letter of the alphabet, so some letters have no symbol and thus is displayed as a mere box).
Similarly, the YoRHa headphones have a stylish boarder down the center.
One thing to keep in mind if you’re interested in getting ahold of these headphones…
The quality isn’t all that great, which is to be expected. Simply wearing them feels a little awkward, like they don’t quite lay flat against your ears properly. I can imagine that wearing them for any prolonged period would get pretty uncomfortable. The sound is okay but not great. You may need to play around with your treble/bass settings since the treble sounds higher than normal. Also, I’m worried about the part of the cord that plugs into your audio device for the Emil set (the YoRHa one seems okay), but it already sounds like it’s getting that usual short that cuts out the sound when you touch the cord just right. I’m hoping it won’t completely die for a while yet, but who knows… I may only use these for special occasions, just to keep them in relatively good condition.
This weekend was the fan concert produced by the Mond Tränen PhilharmoNikeR, aka Lunar Tear Orchestra, aka Tsuki Oke, solely focusing on the music from the original. As it was completely a fan production, there was no direct involvement with anyone official at Square Enix or MONACA; however, a certain amount of approval from them was necessary to put on the concert at all.
This concert was a product of love by fans, for fans, and as a huge fan myself, I *needed* to be part of it! <3
I’m sure I’ve talked about this in the past, but then again I’m not sure if I ever wrote a post about it here. I’m relatively active on various different places online that I tend to forget where I talked about stuff. orz I have a very bad short-term memory…
Anyway, here’s a brief look at the actual tickets for the upcoming music concerts here in Japan.
First off is the Mond Tränen Philharmoniker aka Tsuki Oke (short for Tsuki no Namida Orchestra) completely fan based orchestra. Participation for this concert was pretty open, but it was probably a good thing if participants were somewhat musically experienced. I found out about this through Twitter and signed up as soon as I could and they apparently accepted me! I will be singing Soprano 2. I’m sure I’ll have lots more to talk about this once the event is over! Yesterday was our final rehearsal! The actual concert will be on Saturday, April 15!
Below are a couple *free* tickets I received to give to my friends…
The Angelic text reads: “inishie no kioku, tamashii no shirabe” (Memory of the Past, Trace of the Soul).
Secondly, there are also several official concerts coming up. The first is on April 23 in Osaka and then later on May 4th & 5th in Tokyo. Unlike our fan-based event, this one is “orchestrated” by Square Enix with official performances by Emi Evans and J’Nique Nicole. This particular event was probably made possible by the HUGE demand for tickets at the last concert, last year on April 16.
Below, is a shot of one of my tickets…
Angelic text reads: “ningiyou tachi no kioku” (Memory of the Dolls).
There will probably be lots more to discuss about these events once they’ve come and gone, so please look forward to that! <3
Just a couple days ago, the official Twitter account for the Tower Records store in Shinjuku posted a photo of their nice display featuring many of the soundtracks and more to strike up interest in the release of . They even made an awesome Emil cardboard mask for people to take selfies with!
Pretty cool, right? So, of course, I had to go check it out for myself! Here’s what the display looked like:
Here’s a closer look at the items that were featured in this display:
NieR Tribute Album -echo-
Piano Collections – NieR Gestalt & Replicant
NieR Gestalt & Replicant – 15 Nightmare & Arrange Tracks
NieR Music Concert & Talk Live Blu-ray
Drag-on Dragoon 3 Original Soundtrack
new theme song collaboration with the band amazarashi (Akita Hiromu) includes an illustration book specifically designed by Yoko Taro. Reservations for this release scheduled for February 22nd are currently open!
And just like the image that was uploaded to the Tower Records Twitter account, they left a really nice Emil mask next to the display for people to us in their own selfies. xD
“Our PR rep really fussed over the limited edition box. Actually, the designer has a hidden design somewhere in the emblem printed here, and that, we’ll discuss some other time……”ーYoko Taro
So, that got me thinking some more and imagining what could be “hidden” in this design. When I first saw the emblem or glyph, I thought it resembled an eye that possibly has a tear streaming down from it. I also thought it resembled a lot like a blooming flower, reminiscent of the Flower entity from DOD3, and we all know that damn thing could still be lurking out there somewhere, clinging onto dear life.
Another thing I wondered about was whether or not this particular design was borrowed from or maybe merged some of the glyphs from the previous games. So for that purpose, let’s take another look at the main glyphs.
Here, we can see that Zero’s glyph was clearly made in retrospect to resemble Caim’s own: a blossoming flower with Caim’s dragon-esque glyph emerging from within. As for the other Utautai glyphs from DOD3, they all have a uniform circular structor to the design with varying aspects setting them apart from each other. The one the intrigues me the most in relation to the new glyph is One’s. It shares almost the same, exact spikes as Nowe’s glyph with a total of 6 protruding “wing” spikes (Nowe’s seems to have an additional 3 on the “tail”).
I also thought that, overall, the emblem resembled the flower “dash” that was used in the DOD3 logo, as seen above. If you rotate the image 90 degrees to the right and imagine an eye sprouting from the center of the flower, I think that depicts the basics of the design.
This particular head-on look of an eye reminded me of the graphics from DOD3 that represented each Utautai:
Stepping a little further from the graphical design, there are 5 prongs at the top of the “eye” to create apparent eye lashes. The number 5… there were 5 additional Utautai born from the flower due to Zero’s offensive action.
Oh, and the YoRHa Bunker also displays a nice emblem, too:
This glyph also shares the same five prongs that appear in the “eye” glyph above, but this one has three swords, standing tall and straight. I don’t have anything much to say on this yet, but… the number three brings to mind the original 3 YoRHa from the beginning days of the YoRHa endeavor in connection with MONACA and DearStage. It was these three vocalists that sang the boss battle themes on the DOD3 soundtrack. You can find more information on this here.
So what do you think? Could this be a clue that actively connects both game series? We know they exist in the same world at different points in the overall timeline, but… could they be more entangled than that? More related in each other’s future–and past–than we were initially lead to believe?
